Aloha Tower Marketplace
is lighting up for Christmas

IT'S BEGINNING to look a lot like Christmas: Aloha Tower Marketplace doesn't waste any time getting into the holiday spirit this year. If you can't wait for the Honolulu City Lights display that kicks off Dec. 7, head down to Aloha Tower tomorrow starting at 5:30 p.m. for a "DeLIGHTful Night."

Santa Claus and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer will make a special appearance from the North Pole tomorrow at 6 p.m. to officially turn on Aloha Tower Marketplace's holiday lights display, and the two will stick around to take free photos with children. The St. Augustine Tongan Choir, Greg and Junko MacDonald's steel drum band and the Honolulu Boy Choir will also perform. Call 566-2337 for details ...

Two big surf parties worth checking out this weekend, one out at Waimea Falls Park tomorrow night and another at the Hawaiian Hut on Saturday.

Kicking off at 7 p.m. tomorrow night, the Mermen headline a benefit for North Shore Lifeguard Association at Waimea Falls Park. Surf Jam is scheduled to open, and Ripcurl will premiere their latest surf video, "This Way Up." Surfboards from Jeff Clark and Dennis Pang will be given away, and be sure to check out the slide show featuring Scott Aichner, Dave Bjorn and Sean Davey that will be running all night. Tickets for tomorrow night's benefit are $8 in advance and $10 at the door. Head over to any Town and Country store for tickets, or call 638-7900 for other presale locations ...

And on Saturday, the guys from Go Jimmy Go celebrate with their "Sixth Birthday Skalabration" on the grounds of the Ala Moana Hotel. It's been a pretty good year for Ian Ashley, Jason "Bison" Friedmann, Shon Gregory, Fernando Pacheco, Eric White and Cameron Wright; the guys released a new album, "Soul Arrival," opened for the likes of No Doubt and Reel Big Fish; and played part of last summer's Vans Warped Tour to rave reviews.

Things won't be slowing down much over the next 12 months, either -- the guys head off to Las Vegas in March for "Ska Summit 2003," and they've also been invited to play a longer schedule of dates on next year's Warped Tour. Doors open at 9:30 p.m. for Saturday night's "Skalabration," and $8 gets you through the door if you're over 21 (people 18 to 20 years old pay $10). Call 941-5205 for more info ...
