With the help of a crane, city crews straightened the city's annual Christmas tree in front of Honolulu Hale yesterday. The tree is a 60-foot Norfolk pine.

James Mahoney, helped set up tree for display. The tree will be decorated Tuesday and Wednesday. The opening night for Honolulu City Lights is Dec. 7.




SNUFFING OUT SMOKING

Hundreds of students gathered at the state Capitol courtyard yesterday for the American Cancer Society's Great American Smokeout Rally. Clapping in the audience in the foreground were, from left, Nevajane Pascua, Kicendra Defan and Kimberly Pascua, all with Ilima Intermediate's Peer Education Program. As the Smokeout's main event, students used a ceremonial hammer and nail to "put the nail in the coffin" of the tobacco industry.
