WAILUKU >> A member of a Valley Isle nonprofit board seeking to acquire land in Waihee for preservation has been named as the future Maui County planning director.

Maui Mayor-elect Alan Arakawa said earlier this week that Michael Foley will head the Planning Department when the new administration takes office on Jan. 2.

Foley, a board member of the Maui Coastal Land Trust, has served as planning director for a number of California cities, such as Davis, Napa and Sausalito.

He succeeds John Min, who was appointed by outgoing Mayor James "Kimo" Apana.

Arakawa also named other Cabinet heads, including:

>> Businessman Keith A. Regan, finance director.

>> Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Davelynn Tengan, prosecutor.

>> Deputy Parks Director Glenn T. Correa, parks director.

>> First Deputy Corporation Counsel Brian Moto, corporation counsel.

>> Deputy Water Director George Tengan, water director.

Arakawa reappointed Alice Lee as the director of the Department of Housing and Human Concerns.

Regan, president of Hawaii Cartage Inc., was named Bank of Hawaii's Community Service Person of the Year in 2001.

The Council needs to confirm the appointments of the water director, corporation counsel and prosecuting attorney.
