Ornament sales to aid
city and state programs

Star-Bulletin staff

Both the city and state are offering special ornaments to put a shine on the holidays.

"A Royal Christmas" 2002 Christmas Ornament is being offered as a fund-raiser for the Washington Place Foundation, a nonprofit organization devoted to the preservation and restoration of Washington Place.

The ornament, which can be hung or placed on an accompanying gold-toned stand, features the portrait of Queen Lili'uokalani commissioned to hang in Iolani Palace by William Cogswell, portrait artist of the American presidents. The portrait was later brought to Washington Place.

First lady Vicky Cayetano will be signing the Christmas ornament from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday at C.S. Wo, 702 S. Beretania St. (see photos at left). The event is free, but the cost of the ornament is $15 plus 60 cents tax.

The ornaments will be available at C.S. Wo, Macy's, Neiman Marcus and through the foundation. Write to P.O. Box 873, Honolulu, HI 96808.

For more information about the event, call 545-5388. For more information about the foundation or Washington Place, call 586-0157.
