Just a little get-together
with Sir Paul

FORMER Isle D.J. Kamasami Kong hosts a mammoth radio show in Japan, and lives, poor guy, in the Ritz Carlton-Osaka. This week, the manager of the hotel, Octavio Gamara (former G.M. of the Ritz Carlton-Maui) asked Kong if he'd emcee a private party Sunday night. Kong begged off because he planned to see the Paul McCartney concert at the Osaka Dome that night. "Don't worry," said Gamara, "the party will be after the concert." Kong then agreed, asking "What kind of party?" A small private party in the Presidential Suite for a VIP, Gamara told him. "Who's the VIP?" Kong asked and only then learned it was for none other than Sir Paul McCartney, throwing a "Sayonara Party," Osaka being his last stop on his Japan tour. Reports Kong, "My head's still spinning" as he tries to come up with good questions for the former Beatle ...

KONG, by the way, had Sheryl Crow on his radio show last week, and she told him she loves Hawaii, particularly the North Shore where she made her most recent MTV video, "Soak up the Sun." Sheryl also has something the Crow about -- she'll be opening for the Rolling Stones' USA tour ...

Chatty Kathy

WHEN you mention "Happy Meals" in front of KITV weatherperson Kathy Muneno, it brings back happy memories. Kathy will be returning to the site of her first job in Hawaii, serving up McDonald's delights, on Wednesday. She'll be one of the celebs lending a hand for World Children's Day. McDonald's Restaurants will hold its first ever simultaneous worldwide fund-raiser for Ronald McDonald House Charities. That day, RMHC will get a buck from every Happy Meal sold, as well as from each Egg McMuffin, regular or extra value, Big Mac regular and extra value and Mighty Kids Meal. You can greet Kathy at the McDonald's of Aina Haina from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. ...

YOUNG staffers of Linda Lingle are referring to their experience as akin to "The West Wing." One of them, Stephen Brennan admits they've even taken on Aaron Sorkin-inspired dialog and are considering their own version of "West Wing" and calling it "The Ewa Wing." By the way, if Gov.-elect Lingle doesn't move into the home her predecessor built at no cost to taxpayers, she's lolo. After all, it's separate but equal to Washington Place next door, and that residence can then be devoted to the public ....

Durang Durang

A DUO of one-act plays by Christopher Durang opened this week at TAG's Yellow Brick Theater on Keawe Street. The first, most appropriately entitled "The Actor's Nightmare," follows actor Walter Eccles wonderfully trying to make sense of every actor's bad dream, finding yourself on stage in a play you've never rehearsed and don't even know the title or author. Eccles is uproarious as is Eden-Lee Murray in a variety of roles. The second one-act, "Sister Mary Ignatious Explains It All for You," is a tour de force for Jo Pruden as the nun every Catholic will recognize as she explains life as she sees it. David Farmer has harvested a pair of gems ...
