Governor-elect Linda Lingle has selected Travis Thompson to lead her transition team and Lenny Klompus to chair her Dec. 2 inauguration, chief of staff Bob Awana announced yesterday.

Klompus will also serve as Lingle's senior communications advisor.

Thompson, a retired Boeing executive, was director of finance for Maui County for eight years while Lingle was mayor.

He called his appointment a challenge and an opportunity to serve, but added that he would like to finish the job quickly so he can return home to Maui.

Lingle is accepting resumes to fill about 17 key positions, including the directors of the departments of Taxation, Budget & Finance and Health, Awana said.

Thompson said chairmen have been named for committees that will make recommendations to Lingle on Cabinet appointments.

Each committee will make three recommendations for department heads, he said.

Interviewers have been instructed not to ask about applicants' political affiliations or how they voted in the general election, Awana said.

"(Lingle) is looking for people who are competent, who have passion to do what is right for the people and who are dedicated to bringing about positive results for the people," Awana said.

Applications can be downloaded from www.lindalingle.com and submitted via fax at 440-9629 or in person to Lingle headquarters at 1290 Ala Moana.
