Sony volunteers needed

The Sony Open in Hawaii has put out a call for volunteers to help in its 2003 golf tournament at the Waialae Country Club Jan. 13-19.

Men and women are needed to assist as marshals, caddies, admissions, transportation drivers and other areas. Volunteers will be provided with a complimentary golf shirt, visor or golf cap and lunch.

Fay at Aloha Section PGA conference

United States Golf Association Executive Director David Fay will be one of the keynote speakers at the Aloha PGA Golf Conference at the Sheraton Waikiki on Nov. 23.

Also speaking will be M.G. Orender, President of the PGA of America and Robert Trent Jones Jr., noted golf course architect. NBC golf analyst Mark Rolfing will be the moderator.

The conference will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and costs $50, which includes continental breakfast, lunch and snacks.

Waikoloa raises over $10,000 for HSWGF

The first Waikoloa Women's Golf Challenge, hosted by the Waikoloa Beach Resort, raised more than $10,000 for the Hawaii State Women's Golf Foundation.

The Hawaii State Women's Golf Foundation was formed to support women's golf in Hawaii with financial aid for local tournaments and championships, qualifying rounds for national events, golf workshops and clinics.
