The 2002 JN Chevrolet Hale'iwa Sea Spree kicks into high gear tonight and continues through Sunday evening. The annual three-day festival at Haleiwa Beach Park features live stage entertainment, eating contests, the usual E.K. Fernandez carnival midway of rides and games, food booths, arts and crafts, and military displays and demonstrations.

Sunday afternoon fest-goers will be able, with the purchase of a wristband for $15, to ride all the carnival rides as many times as they want from noon to 5 p.m. Keiki that day will also have their own contests, such as coconut soccer, sack o' rice and basket o' corn races, a pumpkin roll, and an egg hunt especially for the littler ones.

And some of our own staffers will be there Sunday for a meet-and-greet starting at noon, like editorial cartoonist Corky Trinidad, columnists Charles Memminger and Mark Coleman, sportswriter Kalani Simpson, and features writer Tim Ryan.

Admission to the event is free.
