Haunted Houses

"Shock House": Enjoy the frightening festivities of the original haunted house created by Tom Moffatt Productions and Act One Theater Design, 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. today at Aloha Tower Marketplace. Cost: $6.50; children under 5 are free. Call 566-2337.

The Scare Factory: Experience a creepy collage of eerie sights and sounds through Sunday at Windward Mall, in the upper-level theater wing, between the Gap and Suncoast Motion Pictures. "Swamp Zombie Manor": Special effects and illusions are created by Mike Ching, past president of the Society of American Magicians. Ala Moana Center: 5 to 7 p.m. Pick up a list of participating stores at the customer service center. Call 955-9517.

Compadres: 6 to 8 p.m. Featuring bobbing for apples and a juice giveaway.

Kahala Mall: 5 to 7 p.m. Visit participating merchants for treats. Call 732-7736.

Nuuanu YMCA: Stroll down "Trick or Treat Lane" and participate in a variety of games. There will also be a haunted house, costumed characters, candy and jack-o'-lanterns in a safe, supervised environment; 6 to 9 p.m. today at 1441 Pali Hwy. Cost: $1 per person. Call 531-3558.

Pearlridge: 5 to 7 p.m. Call 488-0981.

Town Center of Mililani: 6 to 7:30 p.m. Participating merchants will hang orange pumpkin signs in their storefronts. Call 625-5233.

Salt Lake Shopping Center: 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. For ages 12 and under, accompanied by an adult. Call 735-8822.

Windward Mall: 6 to 8 p.m. Bring a camera or visit PhotoTrends at the "spooktacular Halloween display." Call 235-1143.

Wahiawa Shopping Center and Town Center: Visit participating merchants and receive a free plastic pumpkin filled with candy, toys, Halloween crafts or gift certificates today, while supplies last. The center is located on California Avenue.

Waianae Mall: 5 to 7 p.m. Call 696-2690.

Ward Shopping Centers: Trick-or-treating spans the four centers: Ward Warehouse, Ward Centre, Ward Village Shops and Ward Gateway Center. Keikis can get free photos on the ground floor of Ward Centre that can be made into either a key chain or magnet; 6 to 8:30 p.m.

Costume Contests today

"Extreme Halloween": $1,000 cash for the best costume at Party Masters Hawaii fete beginning 9 p.m. at the Hawaiian Hut next to Ala Moana Hotel. Must be 21. Cover: $12 with RSVP to 957-0303.

The Row Bar: At Restaurant Row; $500 cash award for first prize.

Koko Marina Center: Third annual Spooktacular Halloween, 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., features more than $500 worth of prizes in a Keiki Costume Contest starting at 5:45 p.m. at Bell Tower, with prizes for "scariest," "most original" and "best TV, movie or book character" costumes. Keiki costume photos will also be available at the tower. Visit the Haunted Bouncy House, create spooktacular treat bags and enjoy free trick-or-treating for keikis 13 and under at participating shops, while supplies last.
