Hawaii-born woman
wins award for ‘Hulk’


Hawaii-born Laura Sode-Matteson won the California on Location Award for her work on Universal's upcoming "The Hulk," directed by Ang Lee. Sode-Matteson, in the late '70s-early '80s, began working in the film/TV industry as a stand-in on "Hawaii Five-O." She also worked on "Jurassic Park III" on Oahu and Kauai in 2000 ...

Dick Askin, Tribune Entertainment president, says the company has Chuck Norris on board to star in a series for fall 2003, but still isn't saying if it's in Hawaii ...

Val Kilmer, tapped to star in the Maui-based feature "Five Stones," has put that movie on hold to portray the late porn star John Holmes in "Wonderland" ...

"E" channel arrives next month (with air transportation being provided by Aloha Airlines) for a "Wild on Hawaii" episode on Oahu and Maui. Hosts Jason Miller, Adam Means and Cindy Taylor begin filming Nov. 10 at Kualoa Ranch. The episode will include a shooting segment, "Girls with Guns," with shooting lessons at the firing range and a Triple Crown party with pro surfers and Roxy Girl Veronica Kay. Later, Taylor will get a surfing lesson in Waikiki, look for a nude beach near Diamond Head, get a spa treatment at the Hilton Hawaiian Village, attend a private catamaran party at Ko Olina and will go clubbing at Zanzibar in the Waikiki Trade Center.

On Maui, the show's hosts will take in a sunrise at Haleakala (as well as the popular downhill bike ride), go kite surfing, take in a luau at the Hyatt Regency Maui and make an evening visit to Lahaina ...

Speaking of Aloha Airlines, the company is a "Producing Sponsor" at the American Film Institute Festival in Los Angeles next month, assisting Hawaii Film Office manager Donne Dawson with a special Hawaii reception in Hollywood for producers and studio presidents Nov. 14. The company is also a Hawaii International Film Festival sponsor, flying in celebrities and their guests from Burbank, Calif.

On Friday, musicians and dancers from Aloha will appear on "Breakfast Television" on CityTV in Vancouver, Canada, to teach hosts Fiona Forbes and Michael Eckford the hula.
