The streak may be over, to the relief of the Hawaii football team.

The Warriors lost a player for at least the following game after every one of their first six games this fall.

The seventh game proved the lucky one: Although safeties Hyrum Peters (stinger) and Leonard Peters (abdomen) left Saturday's 37-14 victory over Tulsa with injuries, both are expected to be cleared to play Friday at Fresno State.

Hyrum Peters, who leads the nation with three interception returns for touchdowns and 176 interception return yards, was held out of the second half Saturday mostly as a precaution. He also missed a half of the Nevada game two weeks ago with a stinger (a nerve injury caused by contact that usually causes pain in the neck and arm).

"Over the years we've had many players with stingers," Hawaii coach June Jones said. "I think it affects different players differently, but it's usually a matter of battling through it."

Leonard Peters was also held out mostly to be on the safe side. Tests yesterday indicated he did not aggravate abdomen injuries he suffered during practice in August.

There's more good news for UH; several previously injured players should also be ready for the Bulldogs.

Starting defensive lineman Houston Ala missed Saturday's game with a mild ankle sprain, but probably could have played.

Running backs Michael Brewster (ankle) and leading rusher Mike Bass (knee) are expected to be available Friday, as well as defensive back/special teams player Lono Manners (ankle).

Inside receiver Chad Owens (knee), defensive tackle Lui Fuga (ankle) and running back/special teams player Jonathan Kauka (knee) remain out.

WAC honors to Dinwiddie: Boise State quarterback Ryan Dinwiddie was named WAC offensive player of the week today.

Dinwiddie came off the bench to complete 19 of 22 passes for 406 yards and five TDs.

Hawaii sophomore quarterback Tim Chang was listed as a nominee.

WAC defensive honors went to Boise State safety Quintin Mikell. Special teams honors went to UTEP place kicker Keith Robinson.
