JIRO AND FRIENDS: Japanese actor Ban Daisuke, right, known to "Kikaida" fans as the android Jiro, celebrated on Wednesday with Jon de Mello and Joanne Ninomiya at the launch party for the "Kikaida Vol. 1" DVD at the Ala Moana Hotel. Ninomiya, who brought the original "Kikaida" television series to Hawaii in 1974, developed the DVD version. De Mello's Mountain Apple Co. is handling distribution.

MIGHTY FINE: Michael Feinstein caught up with Margo Bourland, left, and Mariko Lyons backstage on Friday after his high-energy concert with Matt Catingub and the Honolulu Pops at Blaisdell Concert Hall. Feinstein's "60 Second Version of 'Oklahoma!'," an impression of the late Paul Lynde and a tart comment about his last show at the Waikiki Shell were among the comic highlights in an excellent show.
