"USS Pampanito -- A Submarine and Her Crew"
This is a swell, slim volume that is a capsule history of one of the best-preserved submarines in the country, San Francisco's USS Pampanito, a sister ship to the USS Bowfin in Pearl harbor. Author Nolte wisely provides a crash course in submarine terminology and technology in just a few pages, and spends the rest of the work letting experience the human side of the difficult, dangerous work of war patrols. Some of it is quite moving, and the book is uperbly illustrated and handsomely printed.

"Hawaiian Natural History, Ecology and Evolution"
This is a one-stop shop for information about the natural pro- cesses of Hawaii. It's accurate, invaluable, well-illustrated, massive, up-to-date -- and (unavoidably) textbook dull.
