New hires

>> Bank of Hawaii's mortgage banking division has hired three new vice presidents: sales manager Carl Cunningham directs a team of residential loan managers and loan officers; secondary market manager Ellen Mulholland manages the sales of residential loans into the secondary market and introduces new loan programs; and operations and underwriting manager Allison Yasui oversees daily operations and implements solutions to increase quality of service, efficiency and profitability. The division has also promoted Yvonne Ako to vice president and assistant sales manager, where she will supervise all sales personnel at the bank's mortgage banking loan centers.

>> Karen Inouye has joined Finance Factors Ltd. as vice president and manager of Maui Mortgage Center. She will be responsible for expanding the current mortgage operations into a full service, retail mortgage operation and oversee the hiring and training of retail loan officers, wholesale account executives and support staff. Prior to joining the bank, she served as vice president and branch operations manager for North American Mortgage Co.

>> Exclusive Agent Lottie Chun has opened an Allstate Insurance Co. agency in Kaimuki. She has 16 years of experience in the insurance business and offers a full line of Allstate products and services, including auto, homeowners, renters, life, business and commercial.

>> Lyle Matsuoka has been appointed general manager of Auntie Pasto's on Beretania Street. He joined the restaurant in 1999, working in front and back-of-the-house positions. He began in the restaurant industry at age 13 by sweeping floors and washing dishes at his father's restaurant, Little George's on Ala Moana Boulevard. He has also worked as manager at Furusato and L'Uraku.

>> Restaurant Row's Meritage restaurant has hired Ashley Nakano as pastry chef and Lester Omuro as sous chef. Nakano brings with her nearly 10 years of experience, most recently as assistant pastry chef at the Hilton Waikoloa Village. Omuro was most recently lead cook at Waialae Country Club.

>> CB Richard Ellis Hawaii Inc. has hired Janice K. Ah Sing as a senior associate in the Office Properties Division. The 25-year veteran of the Hawaii real estate market has experience working with landlords and tenants and has represented them with leases exceeding 1 million square-feet in existing multitenant buildings. Headquartered in Los Angeles, CB Richard Ellis has nearly 10,000 employees in more than 260 offices in 47 countries. Its services portfolio includes property sales, leasing and management, corporate services, facilities and project management, mortgage banking, investment management, capital markets, appraisal and valuation, research, and consulting.

>> Tion Buehler and Cathy Tom have been named marketing representatives at Xerox Hawaii. They will be responsible for customer service. Buehler's territory includes downtown Honolulu and Aiea. Tom will be covering the areas of Kaimuki, Hawaii Kai, Kaneohe, Kailua, Waimanalo and Laie. Buehler most recently served as a training specialist for Bank of Hawaii. Tom was a management assistant in nursing administration for Kaiser Permanente. Xerox Hawaii sells and services business equipment.

Promotions

>> Marriott Vacation Club International names Chad Jensen as general manager for their proposed Ko Olina Beach Club. He will be responsible for all operations for the villa vacation ownership resort. He has a total of 12 years of operations experience and has been working at Marriott International for 10 years, beginning his career in 1989 as restaurant manager.

>> Communications Pacific has promoted Alec McGehee from director to vice president and Abigail Wade from senior account executive to account supervisor. McGehee was previously an executive producer for KHNL-TV and a news and documentary programming producer for KHON-TV. Wade has worked on projects involving civic issues, assisting with business, government and community communication. Her accounts include Hilton Grand Vacations Club and the Honolulu Culture and Arts District. CommPac offers public relations, advertising, marketing and interactive communications services.

Recognition

>> Albert "Spike" Denis, chief executive officer of Safeguard Services Inc., will receive the Law Enforcement/Security Appreciation Luncheon's Elwood J. McGuire Award for exceptional contributions to the law enforcement and security field Wednesday at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel. The award will be presented by the Law Enforcement/Security Coalition of Hawaii. It is named in honor of the late Elwood J. McGuire, who headed the State Department's security office in Hawaii for many years. Safeguard Services is a 600-employee security, investigations and consulting services company based in Honolulu.

>> Honolulu attorney Richard Turbin has received the Harvard University School of Law Traphagen Distinguished Alumni Speaker Award. The goal of the Harvard Law School Traphagen Distinguished Alumni Series Program is to enable law students to be inspired and influenced by alumni. Robert C. Clark, faculty dean at Harvard Law presented a certificate to Turbin recognizing him as "an outstanding citizen leader, acclaimed ABA activist, with great skill, rare dedication and uncommon zest who unstintingly serves his clients, community and profession." Turbin is the founder and president of the Law Offices of Richard Turbin, a plaintiffs personal injury law firm.
