A 13th-century "mihrab," or prayer niche, is the most significant piece of Islamic architecture at Shangri La, the estate of the late heiress Doris Duke. Mihrabs are found in mosques and indicate the direction of Mecca. Owen Moore, collections manager at the estate, spoke Tuesday about the piece. The estate will be open to the public in November. POLICE CHANGE THEIR COLORS

It was a mixture of old and new yesterday at Honolulu Police Department headquarters as SWAT team officers modeled their uniforms. New uniforms in olive drab will replace the dark-blue battle dress uniforms. Officer Roy Fuata, left, wore a new uniform; officer Keith Benrajab, center, wore a sniper uniform; and Lt. Stuart Kimura wore an old uniform.



BOAT ACCIDENT ON H-1

A truck towing a 36-foot boat had to stop suddenly on the East-bound H-1 Freeway, causing the boat to break free and crash into the truck. No serious injuries were reported in the 8:30 a.m. accident near the Kaahumanu Street Overpass.
