The Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin Index is a price-weighted index designed to measure the performance of Hawaii-based companies. The index was developed with a base value of 100 as of December 31, 1999. A chart of the index which shows the weekly performance of its members is published weekly in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.

All biotechs not equal

Mera Pharmaceuticals Inc. and Ceatech USA Inc., the two smallest stocks in the Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin index in terms of market capitalization, finished at opposite ends of the spectrum this week in another down week for Wall Street.

The best gainer among the 12 index stocks was Mera, which jumped 25 percent to close at 7.5 cents. The worst performer was Ceatech, which fell 51 percent to an all-time low of 25 cents amid mounting financial problems.

Cyanotech Corp., another company that has had money problems of its own, turned in the second-best finish as it advanced 5.4 percent to 59 cents.
