>> Beadie Kanahele Dawson, Steve Goldstein, and Valerie Kato have joined the Honolulu-based legal firm of Dwyer Schraff Meyer Jossem & Bushnell. Dawson, as "of counsel," will be working with clients in the areas of government affairs, general business transactions and litigation. Goldstein, also as "of counsel," will concentrate in the field of intellectual property. Kato, as an associate, will specialize in commercial litigation and employment law.

>> Ala Moana Hotel has named Alan Y. Akisada director of catering and Ryan Day executive chef. Akisada will guide all aspects of catering department sales as well as oversee banquet facilities. He was most recently catering, meetings and conventions manager at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort & Spa. Day will infuse new ideas and review the menus of the hotel's food and beverage operations including room service, catering and banquets, Ginger Terrace, Plantation Cafe, Mahina Lounge and Rumours Nightclub. He was most recently executive chef at Sunset Grill.

>> Durrant-Media Five has hired Tonia A. Tieppo as an interior designer to work on the Dalian Hotel in China and the Lotte World II - Pusan in Korea. she has worked on residential, commercial, and retail projects, most recently in Utah. Established as Media Five Limited in 1972, Durrant-Media Five is a full-service architectural firm.

>> Sweetie Pacarro has been hired by Oceanic Cable's Channel 16 as a television field reporter for OIA football games. She will do interviews on school spirit and personal pride, give background information on players, report on injuries and interview coaches while continuing her duties at KSSK and as Hanohano Room's show producer.

PROMOTIONS

>> KD Construction Inc. has promoted Ballard Bannister to vice president from project manager. He will be responsible for all of KD Construction's Army and General Services Administration projects in Hawaii, including at the Tripler Army Medical Center and the Federal Courthouse. Bannister joined the firm in 2000 from PER Inc., where he was a project manager. KD Construction is a general contracting established in 1988.

>> Sen. Daniel K. Inouye, senior member of Hawaii's U.S. congressional delegation; Walter Dods, chairman and chief executive officer of First Hawaiian Bank; and J. Hans Strasser, chairman and CEO of Hotelmark Corp., have been elected to Chaminade University's board of governors. Father Donald P. Merrifield, former president and chancellor of Loyola Marymount University; Stephen Bloom, president of the Honolulu Symphony; and Angela H. Issac, executive vice president of the Bank of Hawaii, have been elected to the university's expanded board of regents.

>> The Friends of the Children's Justice Center has added five new members to its board of directors. Thomas Barlow is chief program officer of Pacific Resources for Education and Learning, which provides educational resources for all ages, particularly in multicultural and multilingual environments. Mark Bennett is a partner in the law firm of McCorriston Miller Mukai MacKinnon LLP and has been practicing law for 22 years. Peter Bihari, treasurer of the Hawaii Loa Ridge Owners Association, was formerly a managing director of Union Bank of Switzerland. Barbara Rutter is as clinical child psychologist in private practice on the Windward side of Oahu. She was formerly a consultant to the Children's Justice Center. Molly Watanabe is an account executive at Honolulu marketing agency Communications Pacific Inc. The Friends of the Children's Justice Center is a community group whose mission is to make life better for sexually and physically abused children and their families through advocacy, education services and volunteerism. It is a partnership with the Children's Justice Center, a Judiciary program founded in 1986 by the state Legislature.
