WATER MAIN BREAK DISRUPTS KAPIOLANI MORNING TRAFFIC

A crew from the Board of Water Supply excavated today around a 12-inch water main in front of McKinley Car Wash that broke at 1 a.m. Kapiolani Boulevard between Piikoi and Kamakee streets was closed for about five hours while that section of pipe was replaced. Police had closed all six lanes of traffic to clear debris off the street, then three mauka lanes were reopened at about 6 a.m. The Water Board said service to customers was not affected by the break.

Pomai Weall, left, and Lacey Chong, students at Kailua Intermediate School, yesterday looked at a new mural painted Sunday by artist Ron Artis. Artis redid the mural after it was vandalized last week with graffiti. Kailua police arrested a 15-year-old boy in connection with the vandalism.
