Nalani Blaisdell finishing
her psychiatry residency

Question: What ever happened to Nalani Blaisdell? I heard she is a doctor. If so, what kind, and is she in private practice?

Answer: The former KHON-TV news anchor and reporter is in her third year of residency in psychiatry, which she is scheduled to complete in December 2003.

Though the residency is based at Queen's Medical Center, Blaisdell works at various locations, and her current post is the Veterans Administration Medical Center.

Blaisdell began as a political reporter at KHON-TV in 1986 and also covered courts, health and education. She co-anchored the weekend news at KHON-TV with husband Bill Brennan in 1996 while attending the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine. She graduated in 1997.

Blaisdell, a mother of two, comes from a family of doctors. Her father is Richard Blaisdell, a former professor of the University of Chicago and the first chairman of the Department of Medicine at the University of Hawaii. Uncle Kekuni Blaisdell and cousin Lance Blaisdell are also physicians.

Blaisdell has written a paper with colleague Deb Gobert on depression and women in Hawaii, which will be published in December in Pacific Health Dialog.

She is writing a paper on the relationship between emergency trauma cases and the use of crystal methamphetamine.

Blaisdell said of all that she has done in her career, her greatest accomplishments are her two children: Malia, 8, and Billy, 11, Brennan.
