The Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin Index is a price-weighted index designed to measure the performance of Hawaii-based companies. The index was developed with a base value of 100 as of December 31, 1999. A chart of the index which shows the weekly performance of its members is published weekly in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.

Biotech stocks mixed

Mera Pharmaceuticals Inc., which hired a chief scientific officer Tuesday to oversee the company's drug discovery program, jumped 15.4 percent to lead 11 other companies this week in the Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin index. The former Aquasearch Inc. closed yesterday at 7.5 cents.

Competitor Cyanotech Corp., the worst-performing stock in the index this year with a decline of 43.9 percent, had the second-best performance as it rose 12.2 percent to 56 cents.

Ceatech USA Inc. was the week's worst performer as it plunged 21.6 percent to end the week at an all-time low of 40 cents.
