Galen Fox
Republican
Age: 59 Job: Economic development specialist Past: State representative; ex-U.S. Foreign Service officer
What qualifies you to be a state representative?
Relevant experience. Born in Hawaii, raised in Waikiki, with three terms in the state House and past service in responsible federal, state, and city jobs, all focused on improving people's quality of life and raising their incomes.
Proven leadership. Head House Republican caucus, which works hard for a better Hawaii.
What is the most pressing issue facing your district and what would you do about it?
Quality of life. We face rising street crime and homelessness, live with too little park and open space, and constantly battle noise and traffic. I will fight for needed improvements by arguing that Waikiki-Ala Moana, the economic heart of Hawaii, needs back only a fraction of the resources we generate.
What is the best way to stimulate the state's economy?
Reduce the cost of government and return savings to you, the people, as lower taxes. If we stop taxing food you buy in stores and your medical services and products, you will have more money in your pocket. When you spend that money, you will help create jobs.

What qualifies you to be a state representative?
I am a working class Waikiki resident, husband, and father with a happy family. I have served my state and my district in a variety of forms. I will bring my experience to the legislature to develop innovative ideas to stimulate our economy.
What is the most pressing issue facing your district and what would you do about it?
The economy. I would support legislative initiatives to create a more productive business atmosphere. I would support investment in our education system both on the University level as well as the public school level. I would also support public investment in technology transfer, where innovative technology is, jobs follow.
What is the best way to stimulate the state's economy?
Use the interest generated by the Hawaiian Hurricane Relief Fund as a source of capital for low/no interest Small Business Loans. By making money available we solve two problems. First, we support our local business. Second, we create more friendly climate for business which can be identified from afar.
