Election 2002

[ HONOLULU CITY COUNCIL ]

7

Kalihi-Foster Village

Romy M. Cachola

Election 2002

Age: 64 Job: City councilman Past: Former state representative

What makes you qualified to be a City Council member?

I've handled several controversial issues during my 18 years as a policymaker, including selecting the site for the Hawaii Convention Center, establishing the Hawaii Hurricane Relief Fund which saved $213 million, and settlement of the Golf Course 5 & 6 lawsuit, which, when completed, will save taxpayers approximately $100 million.

What is the greatest problem facing Honolulu and what would you do about it?

The city's uncertain fiscal condition is what worries me most. Given the city's limited resources and these uncertain economic times, the most prudent course of action --which I have advocated during my two years on this Council -- is for the city to promote fiscal conservatism and to curb capital expenditures.

Do you support Mayor Jeremy Harris' vision team program? Why or why not? How would you improve it?

The program is good as long as the community's priorities are in line with the city's master plan. Better coordination between the administration and the vision teams, in light of the city's limited resources, will address the community's needs ...

Age: 61 Job: Jewelry/ crafts business owner Past: Video producer; volunteer, Olelo

What makes you qualified to be a City Council member?

I am not in jail!

What is the greatest problem facing Honolulu and what would you do about it?

The elected pretend to listen to The people with their left ears in the meetings and let it go out from their right ears when they are not with The people. I will videotape The people's frustrations, expose them on Olelo, work with related agents until it resolves!

Do you support Mayor Jeremy Harris' vision team program? Why or why not? How would you improve it?

Yes. Consists mostly different groups of people than NHBD (Neighborhood Board). Mostly common caring people who believe in Mayor Jeremy Harris! Due to Sunshine Law violation, it needs to merge with (not under) NHBD, as a PIG (Permitted Interaction Group). Motion goes to NHBD for priority vote. Final green dots by community in shopping mall!
