Woman, 28, confesses in Waipahu shooting

A 28-year-old woman admitted shooting a man in a car near Waipahu High School Aug. 21, according to a police affidavit.

Police charged Totie Tauala with second-degree murder in the death of Hayward Julio along Waipio Point Access Road. Police arrested her Friday night.

Tauala claims Julio tried to make sexual advances toward her and stole personal property, according to the affidavit.

Police were sent to investigate a report of a man armed with a gun standing outside a vehicle arguing with a woman on Waipio Point Access Road and Awailai Street.

Police dispatch told the officers the woman inside the vehicle had been shot.

Police discovered the victim in the driver's seat was a man with multiple gunshot wounds to the chin, neck and chest. The victim was later identified as Julio.

Police said witnesses described a man in his 30s, about 5 feet 8, 180 pounds with brown hair in a pony tail.

A second suspect was described as a female, 5 feet, 110 pounds with straight dark brown hair and a fair complexion.

Both fled the scene in a gray Pontiac Grand Am.

A witness identified one of the females in the car as "Tote," and that she and the victim had been at 94-075 Poailani Circle in Waipahu.

According to one witness who was at the Poailani Circle home, Julio cornered Tauala in a bedroom. Tauala was crying and asking "You not going to that, heh?" the affidavit said.

Tauala told police that on Aug. 21, she went to the Poailani Circle house with Renee Blades.

While there, Julio asked her for drugs, and she gave him a large "rock," the affidavit states.

She told police Julio touched her all over and made sexual advances, police said.

Tauala left with Blades in her car and Julio motioned her to follow him.

Tauala told police she got into the passenger seat of Julio's car and pointed a gun at him to scare him and to retrieve her stolen property and Blades' phone, but he made sexual remarks, police said.

At that point, she told him she didn't want to and fired two shots and unloaded the clip on him, police said.

She then got back into her car with Blades driving and they headed to town.
