Worker Ben Poblete used a jackhammer yesterday to attempt to break up a boulder lodged in the basement of a house in Nuuanu. The huge rock tumbled down a hillside early Friday and into the house at 2527-A Henry St., killing Dara Onishi, 26, while she slept. Onishi was pursuing a master's degree in teaching.

MAUI PROTESTERS SHOW SUPPORT
FOR NATIVE HAWAIIAN PROGRAMS

More than 60 people lined the roads near the state building and courthouse in Wailuku yesterday morning, protesting a lawsuit that challenges government money going to programs exclusively benefiting native Hawaiians. Earl F. Arakaki and 15 other people filed the lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Honolulu, challenging the government's giving moeny to the state Office of Hawaiian Affairs and Department of Hawaiian Homes Lands. Na Kupuna O Maui, the group organizing the protest, said the purpose of the demonstration was to make people aware of the lawsuit. Said Patty Nishiyama about the gathering, "We're just sharing our aloha."
