Hawaiian to share code with America West

Hawaiian Airlines has added America West Airlines to the list of major carriers with which it has codeshare agreements. America West's reservations system will show Hawaiian's flights from Phoenix, Ariz., America West's hub, to Honolulu and the neighbor islands as America West flights. There is also a marketing tie-in, Hawaiian said.

Hawaiian will start a non-stop Phoenix-Honolulu service Oct. 11.

Hawaiian already has codeshare arrangements with American Airlines, Continental and Northwest.

Competitor Aloha Airlines since 1992 has had a codeshare deal with United Airlines.

Mayo Hawaiian Corp. files for bankruptcy

A company formerly affiliated with Lex Brodie's Tire Co. has filed Chapter 7 liquidation bankruptcy, following a recent move by creditors to force Lex Brodie's previous owner into bankruptcy.

Mayo Hawaiian Corp. filed its petition with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court on Wednesday afternoon, saying it has up to $100,000 in assets and between $1 million and $10 million in debt. The company estimates that no funds will be available for distribution to unsecured creditors once bankruptcy administration expenses are paid.

Creditors include Michelin Tire Corp., Gilford Sato & Associates, the state Taxation Department and a unit of Arizona-based Finova Group Inc.

Finova acquired Lex Brodie's out of foreclosure in April, but did not assume the debts of John Mayo, the previous owner. Mayo's creditors are asking a bankruptcy trustee to undo the sale of Lex Brodie's Oahu leases to Finova. Other companies affiliated with Mayo -- firms that actually held the leases to the stations -- have already filed their own voluntary bankruptcy petitions.

Port Douglas is 30 miles north of the Cairns International Airport in north Queensland. The $9.1 million resort is being built by Cairns-based developer Steve Thomas and designed by Pacific Architects Consortium, also of Cairns. Nearby is the Outrigger On The Inlet-Port Douglas, scheduled to open in October.

Outrigger operates or has under development 46 properties in the Pacific region, and plans to have 20 properties in Australia and nearby areas by 2005.

State sets up ocean sciences Web site

The state this week launched a new ocean science and technology Web site that links interested users to more than 170 Hawaii companies engaged in the $100 million industry.

The site, www.HawaiiOceanScience.org, focuses on an online trade magazine featuring technical articles by scientists on over a dozen topics as well as a compilation of industry news releases. The site targets scientists, the media and investors interested in emerging technologies and offers articles on Hawaii's oceanography, aquaculture, fisheries, biotechnology, ecology, energy, engineering, geophysics, surveying, safety, water quality and mineral research, the department said.
