Feldmann-Stubblefield prevails

The fourth-seeded team of Andrew Feldmann and Larry Stubblefield claimed the Aloha Section PGA Four-Ball Match Play Championship yesterday with a 3 and 2 victory over 10th seeded Brian Sasada and Kirk Nelson.

The teams were even through five holes at Oahu Country Club when Feldmann birdied No. 6 to give his team a one-hole lead. Stubblefield birdied Nos. 7 and 10 to pull ahead by three holes. Sasada parred No. 12 to win the hole but Stubblefield countered by parring No. 13 to put the lead back to three holes.

The teams halved the next three holes, finishing the match after 16.

Devitt earns preseason honors

Hawaii junior forward Arlene Devitt was the only Wahine named to the preseason all-Western Athletic Conference women's soccer team announced yesterday.

Devitt, out of Kapaa High on Kauai, was a first-team all-WAC selection last season for Hawaii. Also chosen for preseason honors was Iolani School product Leisha Makinano, a junior defender for Nevada.

Rogers-Scott upsets second seed

ESPINHO, Portugal >> Former Hawaii men's volleyball player Sean Scott and partner Todd Rogers upset the No. 2 team from Argentina in pool play yesterday at the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour at Praia da Baia.

Rogers-Scott, seeded 18th, defeated Mariano Baracetti and Martin Conde, 13-21, 24-21, 24-22 in 70 minutes. Rogers-Scott finished Pool B play by defeating 31st-seeded Stephane Canet and Mathieu Hamel of France, 21-23, 21-17, 15-12.

Meanwhile, Punahou School alumni Stein Metzger-Kevin Wong beat 25th-seeded Katsuhiro Shiratori-Satoshi Watanabe of Japan, but dropped a decision to Australia's Julien Prosser-Lee Zahner.

Hawaii settles into 28th at high school rodeo

FARMINGTON, N.M. >> Team Hawaii was in 28th place after two rounds of the National High School Rodeo Championships at the Farmington State Fairgrounds.

Kalai Nobriga of the Big Island was first in boys cutting with three rounds remaining.

Hawaii Babe Ruth team wins opener

NAPA, Calif. >> Channon "Pake" Coloma scattered two hits in a compete-game victory to lead Hawaii over Nevada, 7-1, in the opener of the Babe Ruth Regional Baseball 13-under Tournament.

Coloma and Parker McCready both drove in two runs.

Savo scores seven for unbeaten Nuggets

SALT LAKE CITY >> Former Hawaii guard Predrag Savovic scored seven points as the Denver Nuggets remained unbeaten in Rocky Mountain Revue summer league play.

The Nuggets (5-0) downed the Portland TrailBlazers, 80-59, at Salt Lake Community College. Savovic was 3-for-7 from the field.

Football season tickets on sale Monday

Season tickets for Hawaii football will go on sale Monday at the Stan Sheriff Center box office.

Prices range from $77 for students and senior citizens to $135 for sidelines. The box office hours are 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
