Sato steps down
as St. Louis coach

Dean Sato has resigned as head baseball coach at St. Louis School.

Sato notified St. Louis athletics director Cal Lee of his resignation in a letter last Friday.

Sato, a 1977 St. Louis graduate, cited uncertainty over whether his contract would be renewed for the 2003 season as a reason for leaving the job.

The Crusaders were 9-9 in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu this spring and went 20-15 in Sato's two seasons as coach. Sato's successor will be St. Louis' fourth head baseball coach in the last five years.
