Musashimaru loses again;
Chiyotaikai takes sole lead

NAGOYA, Japan (AP) -- Yokozuna Musashimaru lost his second straight bout and ozeki Chiyotaikai defeated tournament co-leader Asashoryu to take sole possession of the top spot with two days left in the 15-day Nagoya Grand Sumo Tournament.

In a stunning upset, Musashimaru pushed lowly maegashira No. 8 Shimotori to the edge of the ring, only to tumble out after Shimotori deftly averted his final charge.

Musashimaru's hopes of winning his third straight tournament took a big dent as his record slipped to 10-3. Shimotori improved to 9-4.

The hotly anticipated bout between Chiyotaikai and Asashoryu, who came into the day's matchups with identical 11-1 records, went to the burly ozeki.

Chiyotaikai got the better of a fierce slapping match, putting the sekiwake, whose real name is Dolgorsvren Dagvadjr, off balance before swatting him down.

In other bouts, No. 2 maegashira Kyokushuzan, or Mongolian Batbayar Davaa, was pushed out by No. 11 maegashira Akinoshima to fall to 1-12. Akinoshima improved to 6-7.

Fellow Mongolian Kyokutenho, a No. 8 maegashira, fared better, pushing out No. 9 maegashira Daizen to improve to 8-5. Daizen dropped to 5-8.

In the 26-member juryo division, South Korean Kasugao, whose real name is Kim Son-tek, lost to Senshuyama (7-6) to fall to 6-7.

Asasekiryu, or Badaarch Dashunyam of Mongolia, was defeated by Kobo (8-5) for his eighth loss against five wins.
