DJ Solution
wins regionals

FOR THE SECOND year in a row, the Nocturnal Sound Krew's DJ Solution walked off with top honors Saturday at the Dance Music Community American Battleground Hawaii regional competition at Wave Waikiki. The 15-year-old is now eligible for next month's American Battleground finals and a shot at the 2002 DMC World DJ Championships, scheduled for Sept. 15 in London.

Although Solution didn't make it to last year's DMC world finals, he did fly to San Francisco with fellow NSK members DJ Deception and DJ Jami to capture the 2001 ITF World Team Title. I'm interested to see how the Architechs and Cypha pair Cafe Sistina's Italian motif with classy hip-hop when they throw down "Steriyaki" tonight, starting at 10 p.m. Resident DJs Delve, Zach Morse and XL will be spinning wax.

Party people 18 and over are welcome at Cafe Sistina, located at 1314 S. King St. Parking shouldn't be a problem; lots of free spots are available at the bank next to the restaurant. Visit www.architechshawaii.com for more information ...

GOOD THINGS keep happening for Ian Ashly, Jason "Bison" Friedmann, Shon Gregory, Fernando Pacheco, Eric White and Cameron Wright -- better known as Go Jimmy Go. The guys were spotted recently on the Vans Warped Tour by members of No Doubt, who also spocked out their CD and liked it so much that the Hawaii band was asked to open for Gwen Stefani and the guys Aug. 10 at the Blaisdell ...

DON'T FORGET the breath mints tomorrow night if you're going to the Third Annual Garlic Festival of Hawaii. The event, which runs from 4 to 10 p.m. at Ward Warehouse, is a benefit for the Red Cross. Among the restaurants serving up the garlic goodness: 3660 on the Rise, Auntie Pasto's, Gordon Biersch, Kakaako Kitchen, Parc Cafe, Ryan's Grill and Side Street Inn.

Live entertainment scheduled for tomorrow's festival includes Hulili, Honolulu 24/7 and Enbious. Visit www.garlicfestivalhawaii.com for details, or call 545-4195 ...
