Homemade doggie treats from Hawaii Doggie bakery will be distributed free.

Free snacks for dogs

Dogs out on a leisurely stroll may find themselves enjoying a free treat courtesy of Hawaii Doggie Bakery. The company plans to distribute 300 pounds of healthy homemade biscuits whipped up by their dog-loving bakers through the end of August, when they'll be dropping in at the Humane Society, dog parks throughout Oahu and other dog hangouts.

"We thought this would be a great community service to our furry friends," said bakery owner Jen Kunishima.

Look for two women in Hawaii Doggie Bakery denim short-and-shirt uniforms carrying big baskets. Accept no imitations.

Call 521-7297 for more information.

Coffee and jazz

Starbucks Coffee presents a free concert, "A Taste of Jazz," featuring Abe Weinstein and Friends, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. tomorrow at Kahala Mall as a prequel to the ninth annual Hawaii International Jazz Festival Thursday and next Friday.

The free show will take place at the mall's Center Court.

The jazz fest at the Blaisdell Concert Hall will feature legendary flutist Herbie Mann; saxophonist Eric Marienthal; vocalist Tierney Sutton and the USC Thornton Jazz Orchestra; 13-year-old alto saxophonist Alex Han, winner of the 2000 Panasonic Young Soloists Award; and many local performers. Tickets are $20, $35 and $40, available at the Blaisdell Center box office. Discounts are available for students, seniors, military and Foodland Maika'i Card holders.

For more information, call the Blaisdell at 591-2211 or Ticket Plus at 526-4400.

The fest will also head to Maui July 20-21, with tickets at the Outrigger Wailea Resort, all Pleasant Hawaiian Holidays activities desks, Maui Tacos, Tropical Disc, Groove 2 Music and Borders.

No Doubt

Go Jimmy Go will open for No Doubt when the band hits Honolulu Aug. 10. Apparently, a couple of the guys from No Doubt checked out the Jimsters at a recent Warped Tour concert, heard their CD and were impressed enough to invite the lucky band onto the bill. Tickets for the Goldenvoice-produced show are $28.50 and $38.50. Call 526-4400.
