Musashimaru scores
second victory

NAGOYA, Japan (AP) - Hawaiian-born yokozuna Musashimaru and 11 wrestlers, including ozeki Tochiazuma and Chiyotakari, remained undefeated at 2-0 on Monday, the second day of the 15-day Nagoya Grand Sumo Tournament.

Ozeki Kaio suffered his second-straight defeat.

Wrestling at the Aichi Prefectural Gymnasium in central Japan, Musashimaru, or Fiamalou Penitani, charged No. 2 maegashira Takamisakari with a series of hand thrusts against his foe's throat and easily sent him out, leaving Takamisakari at 0-2.

Musashimaru is seeking the 12th tournament victory of his career and his third straight. He won the previous tournament in the Summer Grand Tournament in May with a 13-2 record.

Chiyotaikai bulldozed out No. 2 maegashira Kyokushuzan, or Mongolian Batbayar Davaa, leaving Kyokushuzan at 0-2.

Tochiazuma dodged winless komusubi Miyabiyama's hand thrusts skillfully and sent him out from behind.

In other major bouts, No. 3 maegashira Dejima charged Kaio with his hand thrusts and sent him out for his second victory against no defeats.

Sekiwake Asashoryu, seeking promotion to sumo's second highest rank of ozeki, grabbed No. 4 maegashira Takanowaka's belt tightly and forced him out, for his second victory against no defeats.

Asashoryu, or Dolgorsvren Dagvadrj of Mongolia, may be promoted to ozeki ranking if he wins more than 10 bouts in this tournament. Takanowaka is 1-1.

No. 7 maegashira Toki attempted to pull down No. 8 maegashira Kyokutenho and sent him out from behind for his first victory against one defeat. Kyokutenho, or Tsevegnyam Nyamjav of Mongolia, is 0-2.

In the 26-member juryo division, just below the senior makuuchi division, No.11-ranked Asasekiryu, or Mongolian Badaarch Dashunyam, threw down No. 12-ranked Hokutoiwa (0-2) for his first victory against one defeat.

No. 12-ranked Kasugaoh, or Kim Son-tek from South Korea, suffered his first defeat against one victory, losing to No. 10-ranked Juzan (2-0) by a driving technique.
