U.S. on way to title game

Jennie Finch scattered seven hits to beat China 3-0 and put the United States in the championship of the U.S. Cup at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium last night.

The U.S. plays Japan at 3 p.m. today. Japan beat the Americans 6-2 in pool play.

Finch struck out eight batters while walking three and throwing the complete game. She got her offensive support on a solo homer from Nina Lindenberg and RBIs from Jessica Mendoza and Lisa Fernandez.

Japan 1, Canada 0: Masumi Mishina scored on shortstop Jackie Nichol's fielding error -- her fourth of the inning -- in the top of the eighth to give the Japanese their fourth win of the tournament.

Yukiko Ueno went all eight innings, allowing four hits and striking out 11.

Former Hawaii-Hilo second baseman Kristy Odamura collected two of Canada's four hits from the leadoff spot.

Curran to entertain QB Club tomorrow

Radio personality Bobby Curran will highlight the agenda of the Honolulu Quarterback Club tomorrow, focusing on the new KCCN format and upcoming University of Hawaii sports broadcasts.

Also on the program are golfing sensations Travis Toyama and Bobbi Kokx.

Lunch begins at 11:30 a.m. at the Pagoda Restaurant. The program begins promptly at noon.
