Metzger-Wong finish early at Norway Open

STAVANGER, Norway >> Hawaii's Stein Metzger and Kevin Wong saw their run in the Norway Open come to an abrupt end yesterday.

The Punahou graduates didn't even make it out of the first day of pool play, losing both matches they played.

Californians Blanton and Henkel beat the 11th-seeded team 13-21, 26-24, 18-16 in an opening match that lasted 67 minutes. Metzger and Wong then lost to Martin and Paul Laciga of Switzerland 21-19, 22-24, 15-11.

Metzger and Wong have the best U.S. men's finish on the FIVB Tour this season, taking third place in Switzerland.

Former University of Hawaii All-American Anjelika Ljungquist and partner Annika Granstrom finished ninth on the women's side after splitting four matches. The duo earned $30,900.
