Kalakaua hoop stars
rout Arizona team


For the second straight game the Kalakaua Wahines (15-and-under) jumped out to a big lead yesterday at the End of the Oregon Trail basketball tournament.

But unlike the previous game, which it lost, Kalakaua kept the pressure on, blasting the Arizona Blazers 59-6.

The Wahines led 30-4 at halftime, with the aid of 14 steals.

Shanna Dacanay had 12 points, 11 assists and six steals for Kalakaua. Cheryl Lee added 13 points.

Kalakaua (1-2) plays its final game of the tournament today.

Tickets available for doubleheader

Reserved tickets for the high school football doubleheader at Aloha Stadium on Sept. 21 are now available at the Kahuku High School campus.

Tickets, available at the Kahuku.org store, are $17 for a reserved seat in the Kahuku section. The store is located next to the library.

Ticket sales will continue until Aug. 15.

Beginning Monday, tickets can be purchased online at www.kahuku.org. For more information, call 293-8919.

The Sept. 21 game features two California powerhouses, including De La Salle, which has won 125 consecutive games.

Kahuku plays Long Beach Poly and St. Louis faces De La Salle.

Field complete for golf junior championship

The field is set for the Callaway Hawaii State Junior Championship.

This year's championship features 2002 Manoa Cup champion Travis Toyama and the 2001 state women's match play champion Stephanie Kono among the participants in the field of 157 junior golfers.

There will be four age divisions for boys and girls at the championship.

The competition is next Tuesday and Wednesday at the Hawaii Prince Golf Course.

UH hosting volleyball camp

Space is still available in the Hawaii men's volleyball camp.

The camp runs July 22-26 at the Stan Sheriff Center. UH staff and players will coach youth and adult camps.

Campers from grades 4 to 12 will play from 1 to 4:30 p.m. The adult camp follows from 6 to 9 p.m.

Graduating high school seniors and older are eligible for the adult camp.
