Cheryl, Kekoa tie the
knot next Saturday

A lovely wedding is planned at Kawaiahao next Saturday when hula dancer Cheryl Arakaki weds Kekoa Kaluhiwa, a member of Sen. Dan Akaka's staff. Robert Cazimero will sing as Cheryl walks down the aisle. Jerry Santos and Olomana will perform at the Ala Moana Hotel reception at which former Miss Hawaii Billie Takaki will sing for the first dance. Kekoa is a member of Hawaiian music group Kilinahe. The couple will cruise to Alaska on their honeymoon. Besides hula, Cheryl is a physical therapy trainer at Pat Ariki's SportsMedicine Hawaii. She is a UH graduate and was a student trainer for the UH football team along with Sheri Kusunoki and Joel Jaucian, other members of Ariki's large, competent staff ...

Cruz control

Others the trainers help include double Hoku Award winner Ernie Cruz Jr. Ernie injured his knee playing basketball two years ago and has undergone four operations. Besides being a top singer-musician, he's a longshoreman for Tim Guard's McCabe, Hamilton and Renny. Ernie has high praise for Ariki and his staff and for Guard for keeping him, despite the injury ...

Dinny Gray loves her two black lab retrievers and the dogs love her. But the big boy, 105 pounds, crashed into her while they were playing in a park recently and injured her knee. The injury landed Dinny in the Emergency Room and she is now undergoing physical therapy with Ariki's staff. The accident occurred as she and the dog were running at each other and instead of turning in opposite directions, they turned into each other. "He knocked me down like a bowling pin," Dinny said. The female dog was barking, running in circles and the male was "banging me on the head with his big paw. He wanted me to get up and stop screaming." Finally, Dinny, using the dogs for support, managed to rise and she limped home, leaning on the shoulders of the dogs as they walked beside her. "The rest is medical," she said. Josh Doheny and Bob Kroger drove her to Straub emergency. She suffered a torn ligament and three tears in the cartilage under the knee ...

Campbell heir weds

Hugh Beckley, son of Campbell Estate heir Cynthia Foster, wed Brynn Joliffe last Saturday at Lanikuhonua. The evening, at which 450 guests danced under the stars, was handled by Conne Sutherland and Liz Perry of Old Waialae Road. Two nights later Conne and Liz catered the Friends of the Children's Justice Center fund-raiser that drew 250 people at Duncan MacNaughton's home. Chairs were Jon Sutherland, Conne's ex, and Cissy Shaner. Tomorrow, Conne and singer Mihana Souza celebrate their birthdays together with brunch at the Moana Hotel ...

Isle Neiman wine expert Roberto Viernes, a UH grad, won a silver medal in the National Young Sommeliers Competition presided over by the prestigious Confrerie de la Chain des Rotisseurs food society ... Elizabeth Buck, former general manager of Planet Hollywood in S.F., is the new GM of the Mariposa restaurant ... Bulletin cartoonist Corky Trinidad fired a hole-in-one recently but he isn't bragging about it. He says it was only 95 yards on the Hawaii Kai Par 3 course. Still, it only took one swing ...
