Benton tribute
ready to roll

TICKETS are still available for "Lolo No Ka Oi" tomorrow night, which is now being billed as a tribute to the late James Grant Benton. The original lineup had Benton joining Ed Ka'ahea for the return of Booga Booga, but his death May 28 of a heart attack changed those plans.

Starting at 7:30 p.m., Ka'ahea will join Mel Cabang as representatives of the old school at the Sheraton-Waikiki. Da Braddahs -- James Roache and Tony Silva -- will also be on hand to represent the next generation of Hawaii's comedians, along with Island Rhythm 98.5's Augie T. Morning show co-host Lanai will emcee, and the event will be videotaped for broadcast later this year on KHON Fox 2.

Seat prices range from $18 to $35 for the show; pick up tickets at the hotel's dining desk or any Ticket Plus outlet. Check out tomorrow's Weekend section for a preview of how lolo things are going to get ...

SPEAKING OF Ticket Plus, I'm happy they're not bothering with Internet sales on Saturday when No Doubt tickets go on sale at 9 a.m. I struggled for more than an hour last month trying to purchase tickets online for the WWE "Tour of Defiance" with no success. This time, a message on the Web site warns that "tickets may not be available online on the first day of sale." The lesson I learned? Just head down to the nearest Foodland instead of wasting your time online.

Doors open at 6 p.m. for the Aug. 10 show at the Blaisdell, with start time scheduled for 7. Tickets are $28.50 and $38.50. You could try lining up at the Blaisdell Box Office, but the messed-up token system they use isn't worth it. Call 526-4400 to purchase by phone instead ...

HEAD OVER to the Ward Entertainment Center on Sunday for the grand opening of Cold Stone Creamery's second Hawaii location. Hawaii's first Cold Stone Creamery opened in Waikiki earlier this year, and new stores are planned for Maui, too. The creamery, which makes its products fresh daily like White Mountain on Kapahulu Avenue did back in the day, uses a freezing granite stone to keep your ice cream cold while they add one of more than 40 different mix-ins.

Not in the mood for ice cream? Cold Stone Creamery also offers frozen yogurt, Italian sorbet, pies and cakes. Check them out from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays, and until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
