GMAH honors Masuda, Inouye

Erin Masuda of Honolulu and Chaz Inouye of Maui were honored by the Golf Media Association of Hawaii last week.

Masuda, a graduate of Hawaii Baptist Academy, received the $1,500 Monte Ito Scholarship award. Inouye, who graduated from St. Anthony's, was the recipient of the $1,500 Bill Gee Scholarship award.

Masuda plans to attend the University of Washington in the fall and study journalism. Inouye has his sights on Loyola Marymount where he will enter the field of public relations.

This is the third year the GMAH has awarded scholarships. Previous recipients included Natalie Nakamura, Evan Yamada, Merynn Ito and Ryan DeBusk.

The awards were made in memory of Ito and Gee, two long-time sportswriters who covered golf in Hawaii for the Honolulu Advertiser and Honolulu Star-Bulletin, respectively.

Manele, Kapalua the best in Hawaii for women

"Golf for Women" magazine has come out with its "50 Best Courses for Women."

Listed at No. 15 is The Challenge at Manele on Lanai. At No. 34 is Maui's Kapalua Golf Club.

No. 1 on the list is the Sea Island Golf Club's Southside course at Sea Island, Ga. The Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club in Southern Pines, N.C., was second.

Waikoloa receives honor seminar from Golf Digest

The Beach Course at the Waikoloa Beach Resort was honored by Golf Digest as one of the "Places to Play in 2002-2003."

The oceanside layout received 4 1/2 stars out of five on a list based on reader ratings of more than 6,500 public golf courses across the United States, Canada, Mexico, Bermuda and the Caribbean.

Aloha Academy of Golf offered at Koolau

The Aloha Academy of Golf at Koolau will offer a Game Improvement Seminar Saturday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Koolau Golf Club.

The cost is $69.95 and includes a three-hour instruction seminar and lunch.

Randy Chang will open the program with an introduction and an overview of the program.

Some of the topics will include body balance for performance and custom club fitting. Mami Uchida, Dana Fong and Darryl Oshiro will assist Chang.
