Hawaii takes over China’s

Hawaii surfers won all but one of the 14 categories yesterday in the second day of China's Annual Wahine Classic at Kuhio Beach.

More than 70 trophies were awarded to participants , but the big winners included Jodi Young of Haleiwa in the women's shortboard, Doreen Teramae of Honolulu in the longboard and Sandy Chang of Kaneohe in the bodyboard.

Pinoi Makalena won the senior longboard contest.

NFL executive to speak at QB Club

Jim Steeg, the NFL's senior vice president of special events, will be the featured speaker at today's meeting of the Honolulu Quarterback Club.

Joining Steeg will be PONY baseball executive Gwen Earll and University of Hawaii broadcaster Pal Eldredge.

The club will honor Iolani's Lauran Dignam as sportsperson of the month for May.

The program begins at noon.
