The Honolulu Star-Bulletin garnered 10 top prizes, with a total of 25 awards, in the 2001 Excellence in Journalism Awards presented Saturday by the Hawaii Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.

The Honolulu Advertiser won 10 first-place awards and 22 overall.

The Maui News received the top print award for public service reporting and also won another top prize.

In the nondaily newspaper category, Pacific Business News won four top awards, and Honolulu Weekly won one.

Among Hawaii's magazines, Honolulu Magazine took four top prizes, Hana Hou two, and Hawaii Business and Spirit of Aloha both won one each.

In television, KGMB-TV won six top awards, KHNL-TV got three top prizes, KITV took home two and KHON-TV received one.

Hawaii and National Public Radio swept all four awards for radio news and feature reporting.

Entries were judged by members of the society's Spokane, Wash., chapter.
