Extreme sports will blaze into Blaisdell
for a 3-day exhibition festival next month

Star-Bulletin staff

It was only a matter of time until Hawaii got its own version of an extreme sports event, and starting on the 4th of July, the Blazin' Circus comes to town in what its promoters hope will be an annual event.

Billed as the "Action Sports & Music Festival," the Blaisdell Center Exhibition Hall will be blazin' from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. July 4 through 6, with some of today's best athletes on BMX bikes, skateboards, in-line skates and Go-Peds, all running through their tricks of the trade up to four times per day.

Tickets to ride

"Action Sports & Music Festival"
When: 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. July 4 to 6
Where: Blaisdell Center Exhibition Hall
Tickets: Advance three-day passes are on sale at the Blaisdell box office for $35, $25 for a children's matinee pass. There's a $5 discount for all Oceanic Cable MYTV card holders.
Single-day passes will be available only on the days of the event at the box office and through Ticket Plus.

Information: www.blazincircus.com.

Featured athletes include Mat Hoffman, 10-time and current World BMX Bicycle Stunt Champion; Japanese in-line skating brothers Eito and Takeshi Yasutoko; professional rollerbladers Cesar Mora and Shane Yost; skateboarders Chris Gentry, Tas Pappas and Sergie Ventura; plus the world's No. 1 female in-line skater, Fabiola Da Silva.

It seems anything related to the street scene and extreme sports will be showcased at the Circus: a half-pipe and street course, action sports and auto show vendor villages, mixed martial arts, bungee jumping, a full-contact fighting championship, a hip-hop poppin' and lockin' show and competition, and, of course, the requisite cheesecake in the form of an Asian model search contest.

There will be music from many of Hawaii's rock bands throughout the festival, plus a light show, and on the 4th of July, an indoor fireworks display.
