cluis@starbulletin.comThe 60-year-old coach of the Rainbows and the UH administration have agreed on a pact that will keep Wallace at Manoa for three seasons, with an option for an additional two years.
"If things are like they are now, you could could say forever," Wallace said today. "We have great kids and we're winning. The plan always was to stay here."
Wallace's contract had expired April 30. It had been expected that a deal would not be finalized until the new athletic director was in place later this year, but Wallace said a decision was made by the administration to "not drop everything on the new A.D."
Although Wallace would not give out specifics, he likely will earn between $200,000-$245,000 a year, including bonuses. His base salary had been $120,000 and is expect to increase to around $180,000; it would make him the highest-paid coach (base salary) in the Western Athletic Conference.
