Psychologists seek to
honor ‘healthiest workplace’

Star-Bulletin staff

Nominations are being sought for Hawaii's healthiest workplace, with awards to be presented in October at the Hawaii Psychological Association's annual conference.

The association established the awards with the American Psychological Association to promote psychological health at work sites.

Excellence is recognized in these categories: large business, small business, nonprofit organization, government agency and military unit.

Applications, due by July 31, are available at www.hawaiipsych.org/hwa or by calling 421-8995.

A team of HPA psychologists will visit the companies as part of the evaluation.

The awards cover five areas: health, safety and security; employee involvement; employee career development; family support; and community support and corporate citizenship.

Last year's winners were Hawaii Business Equipment (small business), Hilton Waikoloa Village (large business), Castle Medical Center (nonprofit organization), 115th Military Intelligence Group (military) and Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Hawaii Healthcare Systems (tying for government).

Hawaii is one of 37 states presenting the Healthy Workplace Award. This is the second year the award has been given here and the third year nationally.

The HPA represents 300 Hawaii psychologists.

For more information, call HPA Executive Director Carol Parker at 521-8995.
