NEW JOBS

>> Karl E. Stahlkopf has joined Hawaiian Electric Co. as senior vice president of energy solutions and chief technology officer. Stahlkopf will build on the company's ongoing technology activities to develop a comprehensive plan. He was most recently vice president of power delivery at the Palo Alto, Calif.-based Electric Power Research Institute.

>> Jean Luka has been named financial aid and scholarship services director at Ke Alii Pauahi Foundation, a support organization of Kamehameha Schools. She will oversee the foundation's financial aid support for Hawaiian students from pre-K through college. Luka was most recently the funding coordinator at the state Department of Health developmental disabilities division.

>> John Toner has been named vice president of Ko Olina Resort Association. His responsibilities include supervising the operations of the resort management, directing the branding and marketing of the resort's collective entities and pursuing new development within the resort. Toner was formerly with the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Co. for 18 years.

>> Jerilynn Ono Hall has joined Alston Hunt Floyd & Ing's Kamuela office as an attorney of counsel. Her focus is litigation, arbitration and mediation. Hall was most recently counsel to Carlsmith Ball.

>> Island Insurance Cos. has appointed Anthony F. Goulart senior underwriter for the commercial insurance division. He is responsible for the underwriting process including selection, pricing and sales of commercial insurance. Goulart was most recently a commercial lines underwriter with OneBeacon Insurance Group in Glendale, Calif.

>> H&S Publishing has hired Melissa Knecht as marketing coordinator. She will coordinate the marketing of the company's print and online publications, including BestPlacesHawaii.com. Knecht was most recently in marketing with the San Antonio Marriott Rivercenter and Riverwalk hotels.

>> Coldwell Banker Pacific Properties has hired Glenn A. Perry as a sales associate in its Kapiolani Office. Prior to coming on board, Perry was a sales associate for Coldwell Banker Pacific Properties Commercial Division. He has more than 30 years of experience in the hotel industry.

>> Castle & Cooke Realty Inc. has hired Tessie Cortez and Wayne Ching as real estate sales representatives. Cortez has one year of real estate experience, working with Kumai Realty Inc. Ching most recently worked as an electronics installer at Verizon Hawaii. 

PROMOTIONS

>> American Savings Bank has promoted Darrell Yamagata to vice president and business banking officer in its business banking department. Yamagata's duties will include providing loans and banking services to small to medium-sized businesses in Hawaii. He previously was assistant vice president and business banking officer in the business banking department.

>> The Rusty Harpoon on Maui has promoted Suzzette Metcalfe to executive chef from general manager. She was previously executive chef at The Pasta Tree in Milwaukee, following stints at several Chicago restaurants.

 >> Marriott International has appointed Paul Toner to area director of marketing for the Pacific Islands, which encompasses Hawaii and Guam. Toner will oversee marketing, sales, advertising and public relations. He joined Marriott in 1985 as sales manager at Key Bridge Marriott Hotel in Washington, D.C.

ON THE BOARD

>> First Hawaiian Bank Vice Chairman Don Horner has been elected to the bank's board of directors. Horner is in charge of retail banking, including the bank's 61-branch network in Hawaii, Guam and Saipan, as well as consumer and business banking, trust, investments, private banking and operations. Horner also serves as executive vice president of BancWest Corp., First Hawaiian's parent company.

>> First Hawaiian Bank recently named 19 officers to the Chairman's Council. They are: Ward Brown, Main Banking Center private banker; Carl Tadaki, Kahului Branch business banking team leader; Phil Keat, Kaimuki Branch manager; Renette Gaspar, Princeville Branch manager; Sharon Osato, Lahaina Branch manager; Julie Kim, Hanapepe-Eleele Branch manager; Ernest Magaoay, Lanai Branch manager; Alvin Goo, Hawaii Kai Branch manager; Chuck Erskine, Kamuela Branch manager; Mitchell Nishimoto, Kahului Branch manager; Bryan Sakai, Wahiawa area manager; Greg Sitar, Waipahu area manager; Vernon Nakamura, Pearlridge area manager; Leland Kahawai, Northeast Kauai area manager; Brian Yamase, Southwest Kauai area manager; Joy Ching, Kaneohe area manager; Steve Williams, Maui regional manager; Mike Murakoshi, Kauai regional manager; and Ray Ono, who earned the award as manager of University Banking Center but has since become manager for Main Banking Center.

RECOGNITION

>>Yuriko Dunn and Sonia Marumoto were inducted in the Heald College Alumni Hall of Fame for 2002. Dunn is the rooms coordinator for Pacific Beach Hotel. Marumoto has worked at Heald College for 12 years. Judy Sadoyama of Farrington High School was recognized by Heald College with the Excellence in Career Education Teaching Award. HealthSouth Surgicare of Hawaii was named Employer of the Year by Heald College. HealthSouth Surgicare has supported the externship program for Heald College Medical Assisting students since May 1999. Anthony Kelly and Sheri Kishaba-Leaman were presented the Heald College Outstanding Instructor Award. Kelly is an instructor in the technology programs, and Kishaba-Leaman is teaching in the medical program.

>> The National Petroleum Managers Association recently recognized Ben Chun of Airport Group International as the nation's most Outstanding Supervisor of Pipeline Maintenance. Chun is maintenance supervisor of pipeline operations at the Honolulu International Airport. The award was presented at a luncheon in Washington, DC.

>> Linda Painter, Oahu Subway board chairperson, was recently named the national Subway Board Chairperson of the Year. Painter has been on the Subway Oahu Subway Franchisees Advertising Fund Trust board for six years.

>> AT&T Wireless recently honored the following employees with the Circle of Excellence Award for outstanding performance, service and skills: Denis Wauke, retail store manager; Florence Tanaka, receivables management representative; Lore Aiwohi, customer care trainer; and Tammi Watai, revenue accountant. The employees were recognized locally and presented with travel prizes.
