Musashimaru remains
unbeaten at summer sumo

TOKYO (AP) - Yokozuna Musashimaru remained tied for the lead Saturday with a solid win over veteran grappler Daizen on the seventh day of the Summer Grand Sumo Tournament.

Musashimaru took control of the bout early with several arm thrusts to the head of his opponent. After forcing Daizen back to the edge, Musashimaru sent the No. 4 maegashira tumbling into the first row of seats at Ryogoku Kokugikan with one final shove.

With the victory, Musashimaru improved to 7-0 and is tied for the lead in the 15-day tourney with ozeki Chiyotaikai and resurgent No. 10 maegashira Kyokushuzan of Mongolia. Daizen fell to 2-5.

In other major bouts, ozeki Tochiazuma fought off an arm throw, got both hands on the belt of sekiwake Asashoryu and hoisted the feisty Mongolian out to improve to 5-2. Asashoryu's bid for promotion to ozeki took another blow as he suffered his third loss.

In an earlier bout, Kyokushuzan spun Kotonowaka around and waltzed him out from behind to maintain his share of the lead. Kotonowaka, a No.6 maegashira, dropped to 4-3.

Chiyotaikai used his trademark arm thrusts to send komusubi Tochinonada tumbling out of the ring to his fourth loss.

Ozeki Kaio breezed past winless No. 2 maegashira Takanonami to improve to 4-3.

Meanwhile, ninth-ranked maegashira Dejima is only one win back of the leaders after shoving out No. 14 maegashira Shimotori, who dropped to 4-3.

Top-ranked maegashira Aminishiki toppled ozeki Musoyama to pick up his third win. Musoyama suffered his second loss.
