Workshops to discuss college tips

The claim to fame of the Tanabe husband-and-wife team is that they collectively won more than $100,000 in scholarships, allowing them to graduate from Harvard debt-free.

Gen Tanabe, a graduate of Waialua High School, and wife Kelly are the authors of "Get Free Cash for College," "Money-Winning Scholarship Essays and Interviews," "Get Into Any College" and "Accepted! 50 Successful College Admission Essays."

They will be holding free workshops this week as part of a national tour:
>> Campbell High School, 6 p.m. tomorrow.
>> Saint Louis School, 7 p.m. Wednesday.
>> McKinley High School, 7 p.m. Thursday.

Among topics they will discuss:
>> How to cut tuition prices and negotiate a better financial aid package.
>> What to do if you are laid off while your child is still in college.
>> Strategies to win scholarships.
>> How to prepare for college admission.
