No matter how important you are, Mr. or Ms. Bigshot, we all know that you are only as good as the secretary who makes sure you never forget an important moment. The time is coming once again for you to express your appreciation.

Secretary's Day approaches on April 24 (or if you're celebrating for a week make it April 22 to 26). This is a big restaurant time for lunch reservations, so you'd best make yours now. Here are some choices (offers are for April 24 only, unless otherwise specified):

Ala Moana Hotel: Frank De Lima entertains during a brunch buffet in the Hibiscus Ballroom. The menu includes salads, sushi, baked stuffed chicken, garlic pesto pasta, grilled salmon. Cost is $29. Call 955-4811.

Brew Moon: Three-course special offered all week. Appetizer choice is spinach salad or Roasted Red Pepper Bisgue; entrée choice is Pineapple-Glazed Mahimahi or Breast of Chicken Rosemarino. Dessert is crepes. Cost is $14.95. Call 593-0088.

Hawaii Prince Hotel: Ho'okena perform during a buffet lunch in the Mauna Kea Ballroom. The menu includes Penne Pasta with Pancetta, Grilled Teriyaki Flank Steak with Shiitake Mushrooms, Beef Shabu Shabu. Cost is $31. Call 944-4438.

Halekulani: Prix-fixe menu at Orchids features choice of two or three courses at $21 and $30, respectively, all week. Appetizer choices are baby romaine and baby shrimp salad or chilled potato and cucumber soup; entrée choices are sautéed sea scallops and prawns or broiled onaga with saffron risotto. Dessert buffet offers a dozen choices, including Lemongrass Brulée, Chocolate Kahlua Decadence Cake, chocolate-covered strawberries. Call 923-2311.

Kahala Mandarin Oriental: Hoku's lunch includes lamb chops and lobster risotto; $35. Call 739-8780. Plumeria Beach Cafe lunch buffet includes shrimp cocktail and steamed Hong Kong-style fish; $26.50 ($13.25 children). Call 739-8760.

Parc Cafe: Lunch buffet all week features most popular items from the All-American Buffet of regional specialties from throughout the country. Cost is $18.95. Call 931-6643.

Sheraton Moana Surfrider: Kapena entertains at lunch buffet at the Banyan Veranda. Buffet includes stations for Caesar salad, somen, soba, ice cream flambé. Entrées include kalua duck quesadillas, potstickers, salmon, flank steak. Cost is $25. Call 922-3111.

3660 on the Rise: Buffet lunch includes a large selection of salads, Grilled Mahimahi with Rock Shrimp and Leek Ragout, Pan-Seared Paillard of Chicken, Marsala Mushroom Sauce Baked Ziti. Cost is $21. Call 737-1177.

Best wine list awards

Two Hawaii restaurants have been selected by the National Restaurant Association as having the best wine lists in the nation.

Roy's and L'Uraku restaurants will be honored at the first "America's Best Wine List" awards dinner Saturday in Monterey, Calif.

Roy's was recognized for having the best wine list among fine-dining chains; L'Uraku was recognized as best among casual-dining restaurants.

Other winners: The Grille Room at Ford's Colony, Williamsburg, Va., (private club); Olive Garden Italian Restaurants (casual-dining chain); Sabor, Schaumburg, Ill. (fine dining, under 50 wine selections); The Ashby Inn & Restaurant, Paris, Va. (fine dining, 50 to 100 selections); Southpark Seafood Grill and Wine Bar, Portland, Ore. (fine dining, 100 to 500 selections); Rubicon, San Francisco (fine dining, more than 500 selections).

Indigo features Mondavi

Indigo Eurasian Cuisine is hosting a wine dinner featuring Robert Mondavi Wineries, 6:30 p.m. April 24.

Chef Glenn Chu's menu: Hors d'oeuvres (with Fume Blanc 2000), Seared Diver Scallop Crusted with Szechuan Peppercorn and Orange Peel (Chardonnay 2000), spinach salad with sherry vinegar (Pinot Noir 1999), Black Peppercorn-Spiced Lamb Shanks Braised in Ginger-Soy Sauce (Cabernet Sauvignon 1998) Spiced Carrot Cake with Carrot Marmalade and Cardamom Cream (Moscato d'Oro 2000) and a cheese-and-fruit course (Woodbridge Porta Cinco). Cost is $65 and the reservation deadline is Thursday.

Indigo's weekly wine-tastings, "The Wrath of Grapes," continues at 6 p.m. Tuesday, featuring French wines.

Wines to be sampled: Michel Redde, Sancerre 2000; Chateau Des Jacques, Moulin A Vent 1999; Jadot Auxey Duresses Blanc 1999; Chateau Mont-Redon, Cote Du Rhone 2000; Jadot, Puligny-Montrachet Romanee 1997.
