Intel CEO's bonus cut in half to $1.1 million

WASHINGTON >> Intel Corp. Chief Executive Craig Barrett's total pay dropped in 2001 as his bonus was cut in half, the company said.

Barrett's base salary remained $575,000 in 2001, and his cash bonus fell to $1.1 million compared with $2.8 million in 2000.

In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the computer-chip giant said the drop in the bonus reflects its intent to relate them to the company's financial performance.

Intel earned $1.3 billion in 2001, down 88 percent from 2000. Revenues were $26.5 billion, down 21 percent.

In addition to his base salary and bonus, Barrett also realized about $17.3 million from exercising stock options in 2001.

Hilton CEO's '01 bonus dropped to $900,000

WASHINGTON >> Hilton Hotels Corp. President and Chief Executive Stephen Bollenbach's 2001 bonus fell to $900,000 from $1.8 million the previous year, according to a filing with the SEC.

Hilton reduced the CEO's bonus because the company didn't meet its earnings objectives in 2001 due to the slowdown in travel following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, the filing said.

Bollenbach's 2001 salary was $1 million, compared with $928,100 in 2000. He also received $205,200 in other compensation, including contributions to the company's 401k savings plan and life insurance premiums.

Bollenbach, 59, was hired by the Beverly Hills, Calif., company as president and CEO in 1996.

Jane magazine spinoff could launch in late 2003

NEW YORK >> Say hello -- maybe -- to Jane Sr.

Jane Pratt, the hip magazine editor who has enthralled teens and twenty-something women over the years with formula-breaking magazines like "Sassy" and her current effort, "Jane," plans to bring her brand of communication to women who hit the big 4-0.

Pratt, who is on the cusp of that age herself, has proposed a magazine called "Elizabeth" -- her middle name -- to top honchos at Fairchild Publications, one of the two large magazine-publishing houses owned by Advance Publications Inc.

Pratt has won some notice for creating magazines that speak frankly with their audiences about "taboo" subjects, feature original reporting and sound less authoritarian than they do friendly.

AOL's Pittman takes control of Internet unit

DULLES, Va. >> AOL Time Warner Inc. said co-Chief Operating Officer Robert Pittman will replace Barry Schuler as chief executive at America Online after the Internet unit's fourth-quarter advertising sales tumbled.

The 48-year-old Pittman, who helped boost advertising after he joined America Online in 1996, needs to sign new ad contracts and revive slowing subscriber growth, analysts said.
