Hongwanji fair has tantalizing treats

Hongwanji members in Papaaloa on the Big Island made chicken Portuguese sausage and smoked pork for the gourmet bentos to be sold next Saturday at the "A Taste of Hongwanji" bazaar in Honolulu.

Fried noodles, chirashi sushi rice, soups, pickled vegetables and baked goods also are on the menu for the annual fund-raiser at Honpa Hongwanji Hawaii Betsuin, 1727 Pali Hwy.

Also on sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. will be tropical fish raised by temple members, fresh produce, plants and handcrafted items.

The temple's "Island Cookery" cookbook also will be sold.

The program will include performances by the Betsuin Taiko Group at 9:45 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. and individual shiatsu massage sessions throughout the day.

Lutheran High students hold campus car washes

Vehicle owners can leave their car-cleaning chores to high-energy Lutheran High School students this month.

The campus car wash will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. next Saturday and April 27 at 1404 University Ave. The Japanese language and culture club will work next weekend to fund scholarships and special projects. The following Saturday's work will be for the benefit of the Class of 2005.

Donations of $5 per car and $7 for larger vehicles are requested.

Workshop discusses hula in worship services

The use of hula and other forms of dance during worship services will be the topic of a May 18 workshop sponsored by the United Methodist Church's Hawaii district discipleship committee.

Becky Choi will lead the "Sacred Sign Dance & Christian Hula" seminar from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Kailua United Methodist Church, 1110 Kailua Road.

The session will be free but registration is required. Call the Rev. Seung Eun Lee at 239-9049.
