Mehana o Ka La-Japan of Tokyo, under the direction of kumu hula Kuuleinani Hashimoto, performed last night at the Edith Kanaka'ole Tennis Stadium at the free "Wednesday Night Hoi'ke," a prelude to the 39th Annual Merrie Monarch Festival in Hilo. The competition starts tonight with the Miss Aloha Hula Competition. Also performing last night were the Here Hia Polynesian Dance Studio from Tokyo, and the Kicaput Eskimo Dancers from Anchorage, Alaska.
