Vintage wines, vintage aloha

Historic shirts in a historic building form the backdrop for a wine-tasting fund-raiser for the Historic Hawaii Foundation, April 13 at the C. Brewer Building.

Vintage aloha shirts from the private collection of Dale Hope, author of "The Aloha Shirt," will be displayed. Hope will be on hand to talk about the shirts and to sell and sign copies of his book. A portion of the book sales will go to Historic Hawaii.

The C. Brewer Building was built in the Mediterranean style in the 1930s as headquarters for the sugar company. It now houses University of Phoenix offices.

JMD Beverages is hosting the wine tasting, offering vintages from Alexander Valley Vineyards, Dry Creek Vineyards, Murphy-Goode Winery and Pedroncelli Winery. The wines will be served with dishes from 3660 on the Rise and Sam Choy's Restaurants.

Tickets are $50, $25 for Historic Hawaii members. Call 523-2900.

Give your lollipop a stand

Kids who can't finish a lollipop in one sitting might consider Rainbow Pops and their accompanying "popstops."

The popstop is a little plastic stand that holds your lollipop when your mouth gets tired or your hands are busy. That's the gimmick.

The pops themselves are studded with "fruit bites" to add texture and enhance taste.

Is a popstop really necessary in life? That's debatable, but if you must have one, packs of Rainbow Pops -- two lollipops and one stand -- sell for $3.75 at Wabi-Sabi, 1223 Koko Head Ave., Suite 4. Call 734-3693.

A star is born ... woof!

Do you have a well-behaved canine resembling a famous "Hollywoof" pooch? The Hawaiian Humane Society is looking for dogs who would like to double for well-known canine stars such as Lassie, Benji, Hooch, Rags, Rin Tin Tin or Eddie (to name just a few) for its "Hooray for HOLLYWOOF!" Tuxes and Tails event April 13 at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel.

Auditions are being arranged now. Call Eve Holt at 946-2187, Ext. 212.
